WHAT IS AN EMDR INTENSIVE?

An EMDR Intensive involves doing longer sessions over a shorter period of time.

Currently, options include:

A) A mini intensive includes a 100-minute session of EMDR for 3 consecutive afternoons in a row.
B) A full intensive includes 2 – 100-minute sessions daily for 3 consecutive afternoons with a break in between.
C) Longer sessions can be negotiated.

Prior to participating in an EMDR Intensive, you will participate in two 50-minute sessions, which will include history taking and screening for suitability, a customized treatment plan, and preparation activities aimed at providing tools for self-regulation.

Additionally, the program includes one 50-minute follow-up session focused on the integration of the learning and positive changes from your sessions.

WHY DO AN EMDR INTENSIVE?

Certainly, EMDR Intensives aren’t ideal in every scenario. While some individuals are new to the healing journey and may not be ready for intensive processing of past trauma, others have had lots of talk therapy and feel the need to take that next step. EMDR Intensives provide an opportunity to more fully process the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of past traumas, memories, etc.

Benefits of EMDR Intensives include:

A) skip the line: instead of meeting for individual sessions over months and years, you can fast-track your therapy by addressing issues in a more timely manner, while avoiding scheduling issues

B) get right to it: getting beyond merely talking about issues – releasing the physical, mental, and emotional residue from past experiences – in a qualitatively significant way

C) save time and money: when you attend individual therapy sessions, you need time to get comfortable and check in, and to get comfortable before you leave the office, reducing time spent on actual processing, so therapy takes longer/Intensives are a more efficient use of time and money

D) Focused: weekly sessions can be difficult to manage for busy people: getting focused or fitting it into your weekly schedule may be challenging, whereas the intensive can fit your schedule and allow you to focus on the issues you want to address.

Furthermore, you will be less distracted from your goals.

The 3-day mini intensive is geared towards focusing on one or two issues or traumatic
experiences.

The 3-day full intensive allows a client to pick two to three areas of concern and process those issues/events more substantively.

If there is anything you aren’t sure about, feel free to check in advance of the intensive sessions.
